A new journalist organization, the Journalists for African Renaissance (JAR] has been born on the sidelines of the ongoing 12th African Union summit in Addis Ababa. The new association was founded by journalists from across Africa who felt that they can help develop early warning system for political crises in Africa that are often ignored until they break out. The founders of JAR come from Somaliland, Kenya. Botswana, Sudan, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia.

These journalist were all brought together by German political foundation who is dirrectly connected to the German government called Friedrich Ebert Stifftung (FES )and gave them several trainings on how media can play their role of stabilizing Africa then with the Besides the objective to help spread the news of an impending political, humanitarian and security breakdown in various countries in the Horn and Great Lakes region, the JAR is interested in enhancing the capacity of their members through training opportunities. Other objectives include exposing members to different working environments in the continent; help members get in touch with potential news buyers, sponsor members to attend major events across the globe and link the organization with key continental bodies such as the African Union. JAR members elected Moha  Farah Jire (Somaliland]  as the president and  Murtada Ghadi (Sudan] as the vice president. Others include Walter  Mavisi (Zimbabwe] Secretary General, Fred Oluoch (Kenya} Treasurer and Elias Meseret (Ethiopia} as the Audiror.Ms.Moha farah Jireh the new elected president of Journalists for African Renaissance said JAR IS BORN to dayat the end of January 2009  we do have to keep up the good work we have for the continent with respect and professionalism and promised she will do her best to co-ordinate all African journalist from east to west and try to awaken the professional journalists for the will of a developed African which played a great role by the media who can build and destroy if they are committed what they are doing for their countries and continent and added she wished to see media playing their role of peace ,stability and development in the continent.
